About the Item
"Paradise, A Wake Up Call" was a response to the California fire in Paradise last year. This fire was devastating and took a toll on the entire Northern California Region. Helen had friends and family who were affected by the fire, and this is her response to the natural disaster. The piece is powerful with the colors of Clyfford Still and the mark-making of an Abstract Expressionist. Plagued with wildfires yearly, this work remains contemporary in representing the destruction and renewal of life after wildfires. "Paradise, A Wake Up Call" is also a reminder that wildfires are a natural occurrence but can be fueled or caused by human intervention. Helen Bellaver is an abstract expressionist living in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she has been practicing for the last thirty years. Her work has evolved into expressions of black. To the artist, black brings her a sense of calm and is at the forefront of her works. She uses it as her foreground, and in the background, she has layers of creams, whites, blues, ochres, browns, reds, etc. Her canvases are worked and worked, with an immense amount of depth to them. Pictures do not do her work justice, and video is truly the way to see her work virtually. We have many videos of her work. Feel free to inquire to see one specifically

Helen Bellaver
Helen Bellaver is an Abstract Expressionist living in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she has been practicing for the last 30 years. Her work has evolved into expressions of black. Bellaver's style is akin to the great Abstract Expressionists such as Clyfford Still, Franz Kline and color-field painter Mark Rothko. The mark-making on her works comes directly from the genre of Abstract Expressionism and her emotions break through the compositions powerfully.
