Harriet was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and lived with her husband in Park Slope for over 35 years.
She attended the Brooklyn Museum School at age 14 where she established her reputation as an abstract expressionist at the Brooklyn Museum School of Art. She later attended Cooper Union, and was under the tutelage of such esteemed artists as Louis Grebenak as well as Willem De Kooning.

Harriet Holden Nash
Harriet Holden Nash was born in 1933 and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She gained attention for her art from an early age and began exhibiting at age 17. Nash attended Cooper Union in New York City and studied under lauded artists of the day including Louis Grebenak and Willem de Kooning. Part of the post World War II movement of Abstract expressionists, Nash focused on abstract shapes and forms. She was influenced by such notable expressionists as Arshile Gorky, Pablo Picasso and De Kooning. Nash enjoyed experimenting with color and painted with oils and later, acrylic. She painted pure abstractions, human forms, nature and urban landscapes. Drawn to bright and vivid hues, Nash also produced sculptures and made forms from found objects.
