About the Item
The moon represents the power of the feminine, enhancing the mystery of fertility and birth. The full moon lights up the night sky capturing our imagination with her luminescence and magic. The Circle is a symbol of wholeness and unity. With the new moon comes rebirth and the opportunity to initiate new things. The moon has been an on-going subject for the artist and has a chapter in her book, Symbols of the Spirit: A Meditative Journey Through Art.
Born: 1953, Mississippi, USA Glen Rogers is an internationally exhibited painter, printmaker, and public sculptor with an MFA in printmaking. She lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for 25 years where she was very active as an artist as well as serving on the board of the SJ ICA and co-founded Citadel Print Center. She moved to Mexico in 2002 and currently lives in San Miguel de Allende. Solo exhibitions include: Museo de la Mujer, Mexico City; Casa Europa, San Miguel de Allende; Casa Haas, Mazatlán; Bellas Artes, Cusco, Peru; and Bienal Int'l de Grabado, ICPNA San Miguel, Lima, Peru. Glen has been visiting ancient sacred sites around the world for her inspiration for more than 35 years as well as worked in studios around the world. To this end, she has done artist residencies in Morocco; Venice, Italy; Spain and Belgium. Her book, Art & Sacred Sites: Connecting with Spirit of Place, chronicles her pilgrimages to sites around the world. Her public artworks in California, include Beacon in Campbell; Web of Life, bridge railing for City of Chico; Spirit Gate in San Jose and internationally Throne for a Goddess, Kunstpark St. Ruprecht/Raab, Austria; and Aleteo, El Charco Botanical Garden, San Miguel de Allende. Her publications, Symbols of the Spirit: A Meditative Journey Through Art, and oracle decks, Spirit Cards and Sacred Feminine Wisdom are available through her website: www.glenrogersart.com. About the Series:
For Dray, Philosophy deals in the abstract and abstraction is an indispensable tool in art and culture. Through his paintings, he reasserts that abstraction has been a part of humanity, all cultures in all ages. Each painting contains hundreds of hand coloured trapezoid shapes, hand drawn with a sharp blade onto silver or gold leaf. Each coloured shape can be interpreted to represent an ‘atomic’ element.
