About the Item
In her paintings, Christine Hayman concerns herself with space. She is interested in how forms are energized by the space around them, especially when incorporated into paintings with vivid contrasting colors and thick painterly textures. Inspired by the natural world, Hayman believes in a process of constant investigation. Trained early on as a classical pianist, Hayman has been greatly influenced by music in her life. Actively involved in theater and dance at the Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati and Baltimore, her creative talents eventually led to her primary focus as a visual artist.
Hayman received her BA in Art History at the University of Maryland and a second degree in Art at the University of Reno, Nevada where she started her investigation in painting.
Currently, she resides in Northern California on a farm with livestock and beautiful surroundings which greatly influence her work.

Chris Hayman
American artist Chris Hayman has been painting for several decades. She plays with colors and space in her densely textured, energetic abstract paintings, which are inspired largely by the natural world.
Hayman was born in New York City. She earned her BA in art history at the University of Maryland and went on to earn a second degree in art at the University of Nevada, Reno. It was during her time in Nevada that she ventured into painting.
Hayman focuses on the dimensions of space within a given piece and has cited her interest “how forms are energized by the space around them.” While the artist has found inspiration in the work of painters such as Roland Petersen and Gustavo Rivera, she lives on a farm in Northern California and is surrounded by her livestock and the beauty of the great outdoors. The majesty of nature has long played a significant role in her work.
Hayman was also trained as a classical pianist and has always had a strong creative spirit. She is deeply involved in theater and the performing arts, and her affinity for music strongly informs her art, as is evidenced by the melodic fluidity of her paintings.
Hayman’s work is held in many corporate and private collections. She has exhibited widely, showing her work group and solo shows in galleries all over the United States.

This contemporary, abstract painting was created by Hudson Valley based artist, Ragellah Rourke in 2022. Her most recent body of work focuses on relationships between color and space. Elements of symbolism, reminiscent of Gustav Klimt, decorate the composition with abstract markings and calligraphic gestural brushwork. Warm yellow and purple tones with hints of green radiate upwards into a background of white, recalling the awaking the nature during the beginning of spring. There is wire installed on the back for easy hanging. The painting’s sides are cleanly painted so additional framing is optional.
Artist Statement:
My paintings are very textural and built up slowly over long periods of time. The surface holds the memory of the painting’s development, all the time looking for clues for what will come next. I look for connections between the forms that develop. They are never something that I logically calculate, but rather a long string of chances, thoughts, and guesses. The appearance and meaning develop throughout the progression of the painting. It is a continuous search for resolution, balance and mystery within the painting.
