"Garden Series" - Abstract Expressionist Composition in Acrylic on Canvas
Vibrant and expressive composition by California artist Charles "Dave" Francis (American, 1951-2018). This piece is focused around high contrast colors and textures - cyan, orange, white and purple all compliment each other, balanced on either side of the canvas. Viewed horizontally, it could be seen a a fiery sunset over the ocean, with the sun reflected in the water and salty spray in the air.
Signed "Dave Francis 2017 on verso, acquired with a collection of the artist's work.
No frame but the sides are wrap painted so it can be hung sans frame..
Canvas size: 30"H x 24"W x 1"D or 24"H x 30"W if hung horizontally.
Charles David "Dave" Francis (American, 1951-2018) was an artist from Santa Cruz, California. He worked in acrylic and stained glass, specifically because the two methods are so dissimilar: "My paintings are very loose and expressive while my stained glass is structured and very much "within the lines". Painting is an exploration and discovery process. I put paint down in many layers until I produce an image I find exciting. In contrast, my stained glass requires a lot of planning and very exacting execution."
