About the Item
Dynamic late 1960's mixed media abstract geometric collage, with mulberry paper cut into curved and angular shapes and adhered in layers, in a unique color palette of navy blue, dark purple, dark green, light peach, rust and black, by California artist Virginia Sevier Rogers (American, 1917-2015).
Signed with the monogram "VSR" and dated '68 lower right. From a collection of her works, the estate of Virginia Rogers.
Displayed in a navy blue mat and metal frame with plexiglass.
Image size: 15.5"H x 12"W.
Rogers was born in Fort Collins, Colorado. She studied with Hugh Breckenridge at the PAFA in 1934, earned a B.A. degree from the University of North Carolina, M.A. at UC Berkeley. In 1971 she moved to the Monterey Peninsula. Member Society of Western Artists, Artists Equity.

Virginia Sevier Rogers
Virginia Sevier Rogers studied with Hugh Breckenridge at the PAFA in 1934 and then earned a BA degree from the University of North Carolina and her MA at UC Berkeley. From the early 1940s, she was the wife of a naval officer and living in Shanghai and other places. Rogers returned to Berkeley in 1950 and had an active art career. In 1971, she moved to the Monterey Peninsula and purchased a farm on Carmel Valley Road. At her studio, Rogers taught small classes and produced paintings, batik, pottery, sculpture and a line of note cards on handmade paper.
