About the Item
'Landscape with Man and Goats', gouache on paper, by Raymond Guerrier (circa 1960s). After the artist moved from Paris to the South of France, he started painting landscapes illuminated by the renowned Provencal light which inspired so many artists before him. We are unsure whether the male subject is the artist himself - it doesn't matter - there is a whimsicality to the work whoever he is. The man stares at the viewer as intently as the goat to the left of the painting stares at him. The man is 'invading' the grazing field of the goats, and perhaps, the viewer is encroaching upon the subject's world as well with their gaze. An artist with a wry sense of humour combined with wonderful talent is always a good thing.
The work is in good overall condition. We've kept the frame in which the work was discovered but added new matting and museum quality, non-reflective glass. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying the listing. Upon request a video will be provided.
About the Artist: Raymond Guerrier (1920-2002). From the age of 14, Raymond Guerrier worked in a Parisian photoengraving workshop. Passionate about painting from an early age, he made his first small paintings at 16. Self-taught, he learned the trade by visiting museums and exhibitions. It was in 1952 that his life was transformed. A merchant from Rue de Seine, Gilbert Stiebel, opened his gallery to young painters to award a prize. Guerrier was the winner and his reward was an exhibition in Paris, followed by one in London. The following year he won the Young Painters Prize which opened the doors to success and recognition for him. In 1954, he left Paris to settle at the foot of the Alpilles, in Provence, in the South of France. From his first very dark canvases to the warm, contrasting coloured landscapes of the south, his painting gradually evolved towards a form of vigorous abstraction. His work is a reflection of the man he was, robust and poetic, mostly consisting of oils on canvas but also drawings, gouaches, collages, as well as sculptures in ceramic, a work he shared with his wife Francesca. Guerrier's work He died in 2002.

Horses at the Edge of the Pond
By Yves Brayer
Located in London, GB
'Horses at the Edge of the Pond', pencil, ink and watercolour on art paper, by Yves Brayer (1980). Brayer loved the Camargue region of France and painted it widely. The Camargue is a vast, swampy delta near Arles, very exotic, with tall marsh grasses where pink flamingos, black bulls and white horses roam freely. This image depicts three horses in the Camargue near pond's edge. Although there are many horses that still run free in the area, there are cowboys — called gardians — who ride the white horses on the beaches...

Le Pont Neuf
By Lucien Génin
Located in London, GB
'Le Pont Neuf', gouache on fine art paper, by Lucien Génin (circa 1930s). The Pont Neuf is the oldest standing bridge across the river Seine in Paris, France. It stands by the western point of the Île de la Cité, the island in the middle of the river that was, between 250 and 225 BC, the birthplace of Paris. It is called 'The New Bridge' because at the time of its inauguration (built 1578-1607), it embodied a very modern look compared to other bridges which spanned the Seine. Lucien Génin has captured its beauty in this lively depiction from the 1930s. Just before the bridge is a 'Bateau Mouche' an open excursion boat that provides visitors with a view of the city from along the river. The artwork is in good overall condition commensurate with age and medium used. It has been newly frame with anti-reflective glass. Please enjoy the photos accompanying this listing. Signed by the artist in the lower left hand. Upon request a video may be provided.
About the Artist: After the devastation of the First World War, Lucien Génin (1894 - 1953) left his provincial home in the autumn of 1919 to find his fortune among the lively Parisians in the heart of Montmartre. Génin befriended the painters Frank Will, Gen Paul, Émile Boyer, Marcel Leprin...

The Remains, A series of 10 works
An insect approaches a crumpled paper doily to eat what remains of a party. This series explores the moment when the trimmings become debris and presumptions of human control are upended. The text-like marks on white vertical rectangles are deliberate, but indecipherable. They appear as if a poem, written in an ancient language, that honors this eternal cycle of destruction and regeneration.
