Two famous Surrealist artists are Max Ernst and Salvador Dalí. A German artist, Ernst was a pioneer in the Dada and Surrealist movements, the boundaries of which he pushed with his unconventional methods of printmaking, drawing and collage. Instantly recognizable by his waxed, upturned mustache, the flamboyant Dalí is one of modern art’s most distinctive figures. He deployed Surrealist dream-like imagery in paintings, sculptures, prints and fashion, as well as in film collaborations with Luis Buñuel and Alfred Hitchcock.
