What was the function of the sancai?
1 Answer

Sancai is a Chinese glazing technique used on pottery featuring three colors. Traditionally those colors were amber, green and a cream hue. In the Tang dynasty, ceramic ware using the sancai technique was typically funerary pieces made in the form of horses, camels and humans. Other pieces of Sancai were made and used for other purposes, but there is a large amount of funerary pieces from this era that feature sancai.
