English Birdcage Made from Wood with Date 1740

About the Item

English birdcage made from wood with date 1740 inlaid in the cresting. The tall and narrow shape indicated use as a breading cage, for finches. The birdcage may have been made later out of earlier wood. England, 1740. Measures: 10.5" deep x 32.5" wide x 55.25" high 26.25 floor to top of base Provenance: Private Collection, Southampton, NY Clinton Howell Antiques and Fine Art, New York.
