Vintage IKEA Furniture Is Newly Coveted

You might associate IKEA with affordable, flat-pack furniture (and struggling to assemble the parts with tiny custom tools). But the Swedish manufacturer has been around since 1943, and it has a rich history of creating iconic pieces and working with blue-chip designers like Verner Panton.

Recently, a 1944 “clam” chair fetched more than $64,000 at auction. And other rare and limited-edition IKEA furnishings are selling for thousands of dollars above their original retail prices.
