We love womenswear designer — and current Saturday Shopper — Joseph Altuzarra for many reasons. For one, he was born in Paris and raised in California (which seems unfairly lucky). Two, he had a full-sized monogrammed ice bar at his recent nuptials to husband Seth Weissman. And three, the man has an uncanny ability to drape slinky evening dresses and tailor crisp-but-feminine day jackets.
As huge fans of his work, we were delighted to see shades of Altuzarra’s Resort 2015 collection pop up in the designer’s Saturday Shopping collection (fun fact: Altuzarra’s cousin, street style star Lily Kwong, was a 2013 shopper). The pieces were born from a loose interpretation of Rainer Maria Fassbender’s 1982 film Querelle, a maritime thriller set in northern France. We asked Altuzarra to give us a little more background on his designs and point out a few places where they overlapped with his 1stdibs picks. Read on for more!
